AL LYLE is a pianist, trombonist and bassist living in London. He started playing piano aged seven, and despite being deaf in his left ear showed great aptitude for music and progressed to the trombone aged 12. He played with Questors Young Musicians' Group, Ealing Youth Orchestra, London Schools Symphony Orchestra and London Youth Wind Band, as well as numerous stage bands for musicals.
At Bristol University he continued playing in stage musicals and with classical orchestras, but also explored other styles including ska, funk and jazz. He achieved a 2:1 BA in Music and went on to work at Wells Cathedral School in Somerset as a music technician, passing on his knowledge and enthusiasm to the next generation of musicians. There he refined his technique as a recording engineer in both classical and popular styles.
Since leaving Wells in 2009, Al has returned to his home town of London to pursue a career in music. He took up the bass guitar in 2010 and reached the finals of the ICMP Higher Dimploma Scholarship the following year. Al plays trombone in ska-punk band King Punch and bass in RnB band Hot Coals.
Al plays a Conn Artist Symphony trombone, Fender and Acepro electric bass guitars. He uses Mark Bass amplification.
